Location: Calgary, AB (Hybrid – Flexible)
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 + benefits

The Role

RetinaLogik is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to play a key role in designing, building, and scaling the server-side systems that underpin its core platform.

You'll work closely with other engineers, product leaders, and stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and maintainable backend services. The role suits someone who enjoys clean architecture, thoughtful problem-solving, and contributing in a regulated, high-quality software environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build secure, scalable, and high-performance backend services using modern .NET and Azure
  • Work with frontend and product teams to define clear API contracts, data models, and service boundaries
  • Design, optimize, and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring performance, integrity, and reliability
  • Apply security best practices across authentication, authorization, encryption, and data protection
  • Improve code quality, performance, and maintainability through strong architectural decisions and refactoring
  • Contribute to documentation of APIs, systems, and architecture to support knowledge sharing and onboarding
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support reliable testing, deployment, and release processes

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of professional backend software development experience
  • Strong experience with .NET Core and Entity Framework
  • Proven experience building and operating cloud-based systems on Azure
  • Solid SQL Server expertise, including schema design and performance tuning
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and maintainable architectures
  • Experience designing secure APIs
  • Proficiency with Git and modern version control workflows
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic approach to engineering challenges

Nice to Have (Not Essential)

  • Experience working with medical or healthcare data standards
  • Exposure to frontend technologies or frameworks
  • Familiarity with regulated environments or quality standards (e.g., ISO, FDA-aligned processes)
